Our History

1958

Founded in Jamestown, NY, Jamestown Plastics began in a space under 10,000 sq. ft. Early customers included military, commercial, and retail markets, with a focus on preservation packaging for military bearings.

1972

Prescotech (Erie, PA) acquires Jamestown Plastics and assigns Vice President James Baker the additional job of General Manager.

1976

James and Jacqueline Baker purchase the company from Tannetics Corp, who had previously acquired Prescotech, setting the stage for its future as a family-led business.

1984

Jay Baker, Jim and Jackie’s son, graduates from Clarkson University and becomes the company’s first full-time salesperson, paving the way for significant growth. The same year, Jamestown Plastics acquires its first large in-line machine, entering the automotive aftermarket.

1985-1986

Rapid growth leads to the purchase of a 100,000 sq. ft. facility in Brocton, NY, relocating the business from Jamestown, and supporting further expansion into consumer goods, retail, medical, and OE automotive markets.

1988

An in-house engineering and tooling department is established, providing us with greater control over our customers’ projects.

1991

Installed a new water jet trimmer, which is a lot of fun when trimming foam!

1994

To support an expanded customer base, operations are opened in Brownsville, TX. Fernando Baca is hired as our first team member in the Lone Star State.

1996

Moved our Brownsville operations to a new 35,000 sq. ft. facility in the community to provide better support for customers in the maquiladora of northern Mexico.

1997

A Class 10,000 Clean Room is built in the Texas facility to produce medical products for major medical device manufacturers.

1999

Jay Baker becomes President, succeeding his father. That same year, the company collaborates with Anheuser-Busch™ on the Budweiser™ Millennium Edition collector’s pack.

2004

Jamestown Plastics achieves ISO 9001:2015 certification thanks in part to the late Jim Tennies, who spearheaded the implementation of our Quality Management System.

2006

Bought first new robotic router trimming machine.

2007

Jessup Baker, Jay’s son, joins Jamestown Plastics full-time, working on the second shift in the tool room.

2012

The team designs a hood liner for the Tesla Model S introduction, showcasing its advanced capabilities.

2015

The patented Click-It™ Closure technology launches, leading to innovative certified child-resistant packaging for the medical, cannabis, and consumer markets, along with the eventual introduction of our own product lines, including Clamtainer® and DoomBox®.

2016

Installed a new Sencorp Ultra to expand our deep draw capabilities, providing even more options for our customers.

2018

DoomBox Enclosed Mouse Trap debuts as the first certified child-resistant mouse trap that also “keeps the mess with the mouse.” Today, you can find it at various North American retailers and at DoomBoxTraps.com.

2020

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Jamestown Plastics develops the TrueHero™ Extreme Coverage Face Shield in just 72 hours, providing critical PPE to frontline workers nationwide.

2021

Jessup Baker is named President of Jamestown Plastics, becoming the third generation Baker to hold the position.

2022

Tamarack Packaging (Meadville, PA) is acquired, expanding the company’s commitment to Made in the USA manufacturing.

2023

Jamestown Plastics becomes a USA-based member of the global MedTech Network, providing customers in the MedTech industry with global supply through local entrepreneurial SMEs.

2024

ISO 13485:2016 certification is achieved at our New York and Texas locations.
